This is (mostly) friends only

This LJ is, for the most part, friends only. Most of my friends are those I got to know in my last year of uni and their friends. I've resigned to the fact I won't find any others who I've known personally through LJ due to its relative unpopularity and the fact they all seem to be goths. If, by some strange fluke, you do know me and are on here please send me a message and I'll add you. The same thing goes for those whose interests closely match mine.

Firefox 3.1 RC2 isn't that stable and it's not noticeably much faster than they said it was.

Google Chrome is lightning fast but until it is as expandable (and ironically wont run as fast with all the add-ons), I'll be using Firefox 3.04.

Bunny - 'rock lingo'
1. Put your music player on Random.
2. Post the first line or two from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
3. Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
4. Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
5. Choose some to upload and share when all are guessed!

I had to skip through so many instrumentals... )

Don't all rush in with the Bohemian Rhapsody one. Most of the others happen to be of a similar difficulty to get. \o/

Drop cubes to create coloured isometric art. Completely pointless but addictive - but that can be said for a lot of the internets.

I left early from work so that I could get to the Argos Extra in Marsh Barton before it closed. I needed a headboard for my newly bought bed but found they were extortionately priced. I gritted my teeth and went for one anyway knowing that it was difficult to get there. I was mostly stuck in gridlocked traffic for the remainder of the journey back through town. I unpacked the box to find the wooden headboard had a huge split right down the middle of it. Even if I had it for free I couldn't use it, it was so bad. This means I'll have to return it by driving exactly the same route and get caught in the difficult traffic again. I really hope they'll give me a refund.

Yesterday my large mushroom coloured mug turned up all of a sudden by the kitchen sink. The last time I had saw that was well over a year and a half ago.

If the McCanns need any proof that things do turn up when all hope is gone, I've got a good example.

Hello new username!

LJ friends
I have wanted to change my username almost ever since I got my LJ account. In the days when lots of people from what used to be known as X-Net used Livejournal I just opted for a similar username so that people from the forums knew who I was.

As [info]stark was not going to be available, I have now settled on [info]js84. I don't think I need to point it out, but the js part is my initials of my first and last name, whereas the 84 part is the year I was born in. If you asked me to explain 'comedy jim' it would take much more than a simple sentence.

You are The Cap'n!

Some men and women are born great, some achieve greatness and some slit the throats of any scalawag who stands between them and unlimited power. You never met a man - or woman - you couldn't eviscerate. You are the definitive Man of Action, the CEO of the Seven Seas, Lee Iacocca in a blousy shirt and drawstring-fly pants. You’re mission-oriented, and if anyone gets in the way, that’s his problem, now isn’t? Your buckle was swashed long ago and you have never been so sure of anything as your ability to bend everyone to your will. You will call anyone out and cut off his head if he shows any sign of taking you on or backing down. If one of your lieutenants shows an overly developed sense of ambition he may find more suitable accommodations in Davy Jones' locker. That is, of course, IF you notice him. You tend to be self absorbed - a weakness that may keep you from seeing enemies where they are and imagining them where they are not.

I'm posting a link to this latest viral video while it still remains funny - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3oHpup-pk

This amateur advert was on BBC Breakfast this morning. Very minimalist word setting. For all its laughability and thanks to the internets, it'll probably be one of the most successful adverts of all time. Be thankful that the Halifax adverts don't go on for over 2 minutes.

I had a cooked English breakfast before I left today so that I would be sufficiently full and not need to bring along lunch to work. The plan failed - I was still hungry, but black pudding rules.

International Guitar Festival 2007

Guitar
I had a great week off work for the International Guitar Festival in Bath. It was actually a residential tuition course than the usual sense of a music festival of gigs. There is too much detail to go into than would be relevant for my LJ but I can say it was one of the best weeks of my life. I learnt so much and made valuable new friends. Travelling to and from Bath wasn't difficult at all. I would definitely go back next year if I can afford it.

The weather turned and was brilliant for nearly all the week. I'm kind of sad that I have to go back to work now that the weather's much better. I hope it isn't just a blip in the summer washout.
Kirby
My whole weekend was set aside for reading The Deathly Hallows pretty much non-stop. Not being the fastest of readers I only just finished it now. I got the book delivered at 11.45 on Saturday and clocked up about 8 hours of breaks in total making the total reading time of approximately 27 hours.

As the title of the post suggests, I wanted to finish it in the weekend because I was getting very paranoid about inadvertently seeing spoilers wherever I'd go. It seems that, possibly it being the biggest hyped book of all time, there are certain arses who would rather ruin it for anyone with an ounce of interest about what happens in the end. I don't know if they get much out of it in return. Shutting myself off from civilisation for this weekend and ploughing through it was the best approach.

No doubt regular book readers (I'm not one of them at all and will only read things like this because the rest of the world are doing so), possibly some of you reading this, have finished it in 8 hours flat. BBC Breakfast on Saturday morning already promised reviews which I promptly turned off the TV to. I can say that I agree with Rowling's opinion that (as a whole) it is probably the best out of the series.

I see your GALIARLY? icon and raise you...

Following the obscure-food-names-on-image-macros-to-make-them-look-a-bit-higher-brow theme. If you don't get it, just go to the avocado section of any supermarket. I suggest Marks 'n' Sparks.

Trilbies off to Fred though. I know it just doesn't compare

I try to not be a geek. I know they're the unhealthy outcasts of the world. I don't think I have reached the same level of geekiness as a number of those on my friends list, but contrary to this I think part of it is in my blood. It's in my nature to develop a fascination with non-social things, some of which are detached from the real world.

Before I could even identify myself as having geeky tendencies at the age of 8, it was probably at its highest around this time. I can put it squarely down to the programmes that were on around 1990-92. some of the childhood programmes I remembered ) Can you sense a theme yet?

I have the unofficial DVD recordings of Knightmare! Woot! ) I feel that, in getting the DVDs, the geeky bagage of my childhood has been rekindled after many years of dormancy and it could be a bad thing. Sure I've grown out of it somewhat and my interest in nature and the outdoors goes against it all (or are there certain ties?). A healthy balance between one extreme of geekery and the other extreme (that I don't identify with but feel I should be) is probably the key.

I might make some LJ userpics from the DVDs if I get bored enough. I'd be happy to hear what you thought of the programmes I mentioned and if you have similar memories.
